After the pot has cooled, the dung ashes are raked off and the finished pot emerges. If enough oxygen reaches the pot during firing, it will develop clea, bright, earthy colors, such as those of this pot. In contrast, if the supply of oxygen is reduced by covering the fire with a layer of fine dung powder, the pot will turn dark from the unburned carbon. Fire clouds, such as the one shown here, are caused by direct contact of the fuel and the pot. |
