| Late Caddo ceramic pipe bowls from the A.C. Saunders site in northeast Texas. Wooden or bone stems were added to such pipe bowls. Tobacco was grown by the Caddo and was used in both ritual and ordinary settings. The Caddo greeted early Spanish and French visitors with the calumet or smling pipe ceremony as was common among many Southeast and Plains groups. |
