Attaching horses to wagons and plows requires a great deal of harness gear and rigging, and these artifacts are well represented in the farmstead collection. A variety of harness buckles, snaps, and slides are shown in this image: (a) is a harness cockeye, which is a point of attachment for the harness; (b) is an unidentified harness buckle; (c) is a breast strap slide fragment for the breast collar that went across the horse's chest; (d) is a trace buckle; (e) is a large strap buckle; (f) is a bolt snap; and (g) is a bull snap. |
