Clouds of dust rise during the excavation of Damp Cave in the fall of 1958 under the direction of Curtis D. Tunnel. Although the damp lower deposits of this rockshelter gave the site its name, the upper deposits were dry and dusty. To deal with the dusty conditions, the archeologists built ramps just outside the rockshelters upon which they placed sieving screens in hopes that wind currents would carry away the worst of the dust.
