| Plains Indian Camp. The horse changed the way of life of the Comanche, and came to be one of the defining cultural attributes of the southern Plains Indians. It enabled them to pursue the bison herds, and to raid settlements in both Texas and Mexico. Although scouts would be sent out to locate bison and potential raiding targets, Comanche camp security was usually lax, and villages were vulnerable to surprise attacks.
