Coils of rope were among the organic materials recovered from the shipwreck, a surprise to both excavators in the field and in the conservation laboratory. As they cleaned and conserved the rope, lab crews picked through dozens of tiny artifacts—bits of hair, tiny animal bones, seeds, beads, and other remains—concealed within the twisted fibers. More than 2000 feet of rope has been painstakingly examined and conserved, with more remaining to be proecessed |
